The Piano Teacher •••
Find a piano teacher that is
right for you. Piano lessons should both
challenge and encourage you to learn in a
relaxed, comfortable studio. Beginning lessons
should be stress-free and be fun. You’ll then
master the fundamentals quickly.
A good piano teacher should take into account
the individual requirements of each student, be
patient, encouraging, and supportive. We’ll
concentrate on the practical aspects of playing.
Ask questions, be curious, and discover all
about playing music. Focus on the music that
inspires you, and you will be motivated to play
and continue learning.
Individual Lessons
•••
I teach are one-on-one
individual lessons. Private lessons are simply
the most effective way to learn. Each student
progresses at a comfortable rate. You’ll advance
quickly and concentrate on the important things.
Group lessons just don’t provide the extra
personal attention required. A modern, personal
approach will bring out the creativity and
individuality of every student. The lessons are
yours. I encourage my students to have a great
time at the lessons, and at home playing the
piano.
Learning to
Play •••
Learning
to play piano is a unique, individual
experience. There is plenty of terrific music to
play: classical, popular, blues, jazz, new age,
and folk. If interested, you can also discover
more; play by ear, blues improvisation, theory,
composing & songwriting, and how to
accompany singing. Spend your time on things
that interest you.
Beginners •••
Most
students are complete beginners. Children &
adults of any age are welcome to start piano or
keyboard lessons. The important thing is to set
things in motion so you can experience the
satisfaction of using your new skill. A good
teacher can make your experience smooth and
enjoyable. It will greatly speed up your
momentum and success.
Children •••
Children respond differently to
learning. They like to connect to their world
and have fun. Excited kids will stay engaged.
Projects also give children a real sense of
accomplishment. Playing duets, composing and
recording original music, making videos, all
give children a chance to achieve something
special and feel proud. These are great tools to
captivate kids with the magic of music. Working
towards a goal and the rewards it brings is an
essential element of study. Studying music does
wonders in childhood development of physical and
mental abilities.
Adults •••
Adults have plenty going on
without having more stress. Relax and have a
good time. Your job is to be inquisitive about
piano and enjoy the lessons. It’s an adventure
that can provide a lifetime of enjoyment. View
your success over a period of months, rather
than week to week, and you’ll enjoy your
experience more.
Is A
Keyboard OK? •••
Students ask if a keyboard will substitute for a
piano. Yes. Keyboards are fine for practicing at
home. Keyboards with 88 keys (the same as a
piano), are even better. Learning to play is the
same on either a keyboard or piano. If you don’t
yet have an instrument, I can make some
suggestions about what to look for.
In just a few months, you’ll
begin to be at ease at the keyboard. There is
nothing more satisfying than expressing yourself
through music. Give me a call to find out all
the details about lessons.
“Great fun piano lessons, terrific teacher for adult beginners. When I decided to learn how to play piano, I looked around quite a bit here in Portland. This one was the right match for me. I’ve been taking lessons here for two years. He is a terrific teacher, very patient with me, and fun to work with. He really enjoys what he does and makes the learning process a joy.
My rapid progress has been truly surprising to me. I am already playing Bach, Enya, Beatles, all sorts of fun music. There is such a variety of things to learn. Every lesson is an adventure and I look forward to my weekly lesson. I am 47 years old, and had been thinking about taking lessons since I was 5. Being able to play piano is my dream come true.”
– Martha B.
“This teacher is perfect for my kids. He’s very experienced and patient. After interviewing several teachers, we chose this instructor. Keeping my kids interested is what it is all about, and these lessons deliver. I am thrilled with their solid progress. This teacher is great and the lessons are fun. My kids love doing recording projects of the songs they’re working on, and also composing their own music. These piano classes are nothing like school. Just the right amount of encouragement, and challenge makes all the difference.” – Amy R.
“I’m an adult beginner piano student, and having lots of fun learning to play piano. I thought about starting lessons for such a long time, I’m so glad I got started and didn’t wait any longer. My experience has been wonderful. My teacher is very skilled and creative at presenting new lesson ideas. I’m learning to read music, pop, classical, and blues piano.
I had started with another teacher, but his approach was way too stiff and serious for me. Here, I am relaxed, and at ease. My teacher is patient and supportive in helping me move forward. I completely recommend him as a teacher.” – A. Pearson
“My two kids love playing piano. We’re extremely pleased with our wonderful teacher who recommended by a friend. He’s SUPER patient with my kids, giving them interesting and new music. His approach to teaching piano is refreshing, very supportive and encouraging. He makes the learning process easy to understand and always fun.
They work on learning to read music, playing by ear, improvisation, recording music on the keyboard, all sorts of fun things that keep them interested. My kids practice more than I ever expected. It is so great to see them leave the lessons motivated to play. They are pleased with their progress and feel a sense of accomplishment.” – Frank B.
